Learn music brought to the United States in the early 1900s by the Jews of Eastern Europe. Members of Ellis Island Band will give an overview of the theory and performance of klezmer music, demonstrating several styles and tunes.  Then we will play tunes together.  All instruments welcome, music provided.

Ellis Island Band (Jim Rebhan, Carol Ginsburg, Josh Cohen, Helen Placourakis) has been featured in concerts, festivals, workshops, cafes, retirement facilities, colleges, parades, and private affairs all over the Bay Area. The band has received awards from the cities of Berkeley, Alameda and Albany for service to those communities. Members of the band have studied, collected, and recorded klezmer music since the band started thirty years ago.
