  Workshops
Demystifying Scots
By Sadie Damascus

Sadie Damascus

Sadie Damascus leads a workshop on the Scots Ballads, a vast and beautiful collection of ancient, powerful songs that, oh dear, just don't look like English on the page.

We will discuss the spelling and spoken differences, and Saide will hand out a brief vocabulary list, showing the easy word changes that differentiate Scots Lawlands (an accented English) from English English.

The handout includes a short pronunciation guide and glossary, along with some songs and their meanings. We will discuss five to ten ballads, their stories and tunes, and during the latter part of the workshop, folks will be encouraged to tell the stories before singing their own favorite Scots ballads. Yes, we will be rolling some R's.
