Across The Pond
|
The workshop explores three distinct but related English dance traditions: ceilidh (English style), Playford and morris. For all melodic or chording instruments. We’ll be in the G/D realm. Low voices very welcome, especially tubas! We’ll do some brief talking and demo of these traditions, see how they differ from other general British Isles traditions as well as from each other. Then we’ll jam on some accessible tunes at comfortable tempos. We’ll have fun. (No bodhrans or didgeridoos, please.)
Across the Pond is Dick Bagwell (winds), Jody Veahman (tenor banjo), Colette Wendt (melodeon) Alan Lochhead (concertina and bass). The four members of Across the Pond have more than 100 years of playing this rep: they're the "house band" for the California Revels, playing for their fundraisers and cast parties (Jody and Dick have performed in the Christmas Revels), for BACDS dances, morris teams, Renaissance and Dickens Fairs. They were featured at the Princeton, B.C. International Music Festival in 2008.
