Attendees will use their own clipboard, notebook, or binder to take notes and draw graphics while Jan describes the roots of music theory as it applies to jamming and accompanying songs and tunes. 24 scales (keys) will be written out and sharps / flats applied throughout the circle of fifths. Then chords built on I, II, III, IV, V, VI, & VII and identified most-to-least expected in any tune or song.
Jan will then discuss altering chords to produce 7th, 9th, augmented, diminished, inverted chords, modulating from one key to another, major-minor relationships, why, and variations.
Questions will be taken. Jan will also discuss beats, tuning, notation and tablature, reading rhythms, plus customs, standards, and rules regarding jamming. Helpful handouts of worth will be given to each attendee. No instruments needed.
