Italian Mandolin By Nicola and Achille Bocus
achilleNicola and Achille Bocus

A chance for mandolin players to learn some classic Italian songs. Achille and Nicola will play some well-known pieces from northern Italy and show how the tremolo technique can be used to mimic the sound of the human voice. We'll review how to get the greatest dynamic contrasts out of the mandolin including piano vs. forte, staccato and legato, and how to use glissando.

Achille and Nicola are teachers of Italian and classical mandolin in the Bay Area and directors of the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra. Achille recently moved from Milan where he was a professional Double Bass player and conducted the Milan Plucked String Orchestra. They perform in small ensembles and are working on a recording of Baroque concertos including Vivaldi's famous concerto for four violins played on mandolins.
